Salvation Army begins holiday fundraiser

It’s the beginning of a traditional Christmas season sight, as the first of many Salvation Army kettles has been deployed at city hall.
After a ceremony of song and prayer, the volunteer organization received their first donations to kick off the holiday fundraising drive. This year, the group is hoping to raise $130,000 and help around 400 families.
For Salvation Army Major, Glenn Patey, it’s an important time for the group because it’s the only time they go to the public for help in a direct way.
“In Christmas time we have the Christmas kettle that’s in the malls and shopping centres and that’s our only fundraising for money raised in Prince Albert, and money raised in Prince Albert stays in Prince Albert,” said Patey.
He said, that this year they anticipate helping at least 400 families by providing Christmas hampers.
Patey said, despite being in the community and helping for years, the need in the community has remained consistent.
Christmas kettles will be placed in the most prominent businesses throughout the city starting Monday, and will be staffed by volunteers and seasonal employees.
In addition, the city had declared December to be Salvation Army month and will fly their flag for its duration.
