More companies show interest in PotashCorp

With BHP Billiton out of the way, other companies are showing an interest in PotashCorp.

Russian-based Phosagro says it will consult with Ottawa as it considers a bid for PCS. But the company would like to learn more before jumping in.

Business News Network anchor Marty Cej thinks Phosagro is going about it the right way.

“They are being completely clear about their intentions. They're considering a bid. They perhaps would like to make a bid. But they need to know more,” said Cej.

They're getting that information right now from the federal government. Cej says it's still very difficult to say whether PCS will end up in foreign hands.

“Simply because we have yet to find any clarity on what the government means by 'net benefit' and that's where the BHP bid fell apart,” said Cej.

Minister Clement rejected the BHP bid because he said it provided no net benefit to Canada. Cej says more detail is needed on what the Minister means by that before we can expect to see any new bids for PCS.
