Man uses baby as shield against police

A man has been arrested after using a baby as a shield against police.

Around 3:30 Tuesday morning Prince Albert police responded to a complaint that a group of men were fighting in the street in the 400 Block of 18th Street West. When police arrived the men weren’t there.

Just over an hour later they got a call that the same group had now kicked in a nearby resident’s door.

When police returned a 24-year-old Prince Albert man exited the house with a lead pipe.

After police used a defense spray that irritates the eyes, the man fled back into the house.

Police followed the man inside; knowing children in the house could be in danger.

The man then used a 22 month old baby to thwart police.

The child was rescued without injury.

The 24 year old is charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of assault with a weapon.
