Entrepreneurs need to be city’s focus

If the city is to take advantage of unprecedented opportunities, it needs to foster and promote and the passion of young entrepreneurs and fight against bureaucracy, said Emmy Award winning journalist Richard Brown.

“I’m seeing Prince Albert and Saskatchewan, and I’m seeing the possibilities,” said Brown to a captivated audience at the SIAST Campus Tuesday night. “I know you see it but you just have to take off your glasses sometimes.

He was the keynote speaker at the Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce’s Chairman’s Dinner. Brown brought with him more than 30 years of experience covering events around the world.

The province was in the best position he had ever seen it since leaving all those years ago. He said the city needed to capitalize on that position and do it right, Brown said.

“Give young entrepreneurs a chance, mentor them and never mind the bureaucratic crap,” he said.

Residents needed to pressure city hall and the province to create a better business environment, Brown said.

“Challenge city hall. Challenge your members of the legislative assembly. Get rid of the taxes, get rid of the things that make this province worse,” he said.

Brown originally came from Prince Albert. He first worked with Rawlco Radio and was hired by then-general manager Jim Scarrow. He was one of the first anchors for CNN and has worked around the world including covering the genocide and refugee crisis in Rwanda in 1994. He now lives near Saskatoon.
