Families remember their lost angels

It was an intimate time at the memorial gardens for families who have lost their little ones as the Lost Angels support group had their annual balloon release.

People wrote messages and tied them to balloons to send up to their little angels who died as infants or during pregnancy.

Trena Hoffus-Preston is a founding member of the lost angels support group who feels it’s hard to understand what parents are going through when they lose a baby.

“I feel more happiness to know that were recognizing our lost angels and allowing for other people in our community to come out and recognize theirs as well,” she said.

For her, events like this balloon release have been a big help. Hoffus-Preston said that without a group like this she would not be the person she is today.

“It becomes very hard to grieve normally… there’s a different element with the grief in the loss of a child so this group definitely helps with that.”

Hoffus-Preston said Memorial Gardens has been a huge support to the group including paying for this year’s event.

The Lost Angels support group is funded mostly by donations from local churches and the group's fundraising efforts.

The balloon release is held every year on Oct. 15 at 12 p.m..
