Fight puts Sask Pen in lock down

An inmate in a Prince Albert-area jail is dead following a fight involveing close to 30 prisoners.

RCMP say the brawl happened in the gym of the Saskatchewan Penitentiary…. just west of the city.

The inmate who died as a result of his injusrries was Courtney Dallas Cook.

Kathy Neil is the deputy warden of the Saskatchewan Penitentiary near Prince Albert and says the fight involved medium-security inmates.

Neil says Cook had been serving a sentence of over two years for dangerous driving causing death and breach of a probation order.

Six other inmates were taken to hospital but no staff injuries were reported.

F Division Major Crimes, Prince Albert RCMP General Investigation Section and the Prince Albert RCMP Forensic Identification Section are involved in the investigation with the Prince Albert Penitentiary staff.
