Search still on for elderly Wakaw man
An elderly man from the Wakaw area has not seen or heard from for three weeks.
The RCMP are treating it as a missing persons case.
“It is absolutely an active investigation,” said Sgt. Paul Dawson.
Victor Mateyshin, 84, was last seen driving his white, 2005, Crown Victoria in the Dana area where he resides.
Family members fear he may have driven down a back road and gotten stuck.
“We are asking people to search their property ….. there may be brush or roads on rural property that has not been searched yet,” said Dawson.
RCMP have received numerous tips. One tip even placed Mateyshin in the Prince Albert area a couple weeks ago, but so far none of the tips have panned out.
Dawson said the vehicle Mateyshin drives is quite distinct. “Imagine your standard police car without the markings on it,” he said.
Dawson said all reports suggest that Mateyshin was in good health.
Eight RCMP detachments are now assisting with the search including Humboldt, Prince Albert and Saskatoon.
Community volunteers have also been assisting with the search effort.
