Stat check: Jekyll started, Hyde finished last season for Raiders

Jul 30, 2013 | 7:15 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders 13-17-3-1 second half slide is well documented, but the team’s lack of offensive production in that time is not.

In fact, there are only three regular Raiders players that have scored more points in the second half than they did in the first, while only four had better points per game ratios as the season went on.

Although he’s been the subject of criticism because he was part of “the trade,” Jayden Hart had the best second half split of any Raider.

He actually scored 11 more points than he did in the first, but that’s misleading because he played significantly more games in the second half, 33 GP, 9 G, 12 A, 21 PTS with the Raiders than he did in the first half with the Tigers, 18 GP, 5 G, 5 A, 10 PTS.

But even though he had more games after Christmas, Hart did score at a better pace as well with .64 points per compared to .55 prior to the New Year.

Even if he played the same amount of games in the first and scored at .55, he would have scored 18 in the first half, giving him a +3 rating—that would still be the largest among all Raiders players.

The two best Raiders that played with PA all season were Leon Draisaitl and Carson Perreaux, both with +2.

Harrison Ruopp had a slightly better per game ratio in the second half, with seven points in 27 games (.26 per) and nine points in 38 first half games (.24 per).

Evan Morden and Tim Vanstone are even in the split stats, but the rest of the team is in the negative.

The biggest second half drops belong to Mike Winther, Anthony Bardaro and Dakota Conroy—in that order. All three played on the same line for stretches in the game, which could explain the stat.

Winther was -16, scoring just 17 second half points after 33 in the first. Bardaro was rated -15 and Conroy scored 14 points less in the second half. Conroy scored just six goals in the second half, after leading the team with 15 heading into the Christmas break.

With a coaching change, a big trade to land an overage goalie, and a new look, the Raiders will hope to put a full 72-game season together in what will be an important year in the franchise’s history.

Here are the split stats of the 20 Raiders’ skaters that played at least 30 games last season.
