Putting your best face forward

As much as we are taught not to judge a book by its cover, the truth is we often judge our own self by our own cover. When we look in the mirror and we like what we see, we feel good. When we look in the mirror and aren’t pleased, we tend to beat ourselves up and feel bad.

Whether it’s acne or rosacea, aging or sun damage, there are things you can do to look better. There is a strong connection between our emotional wellbeing and our physical appearance. When you look better, you feel better. Here are some different strategies.

An inexpensive strategy is skin care. Skin care products like cleansers, moisturizers and serums can actually make a visible difference to the quality of your skin. We’ve been discussing this in recent weeks on CKBI. What matters in skin care is the clinically proven cosmetic ingredient. The quality of the suspension also matters. For acne, work with salicylic acid. For rosacea, look for peptides. For aging and sun damage, reach for vitamin C. These are all proven effective ingredients. Brand name doesn’t matter but quality does.

Always buy face products from someone with skin training who is in the skin industry. After all, this is your face! A reaction to product can be painful and make you look worse for a little while.

Another strategy to put your best face forward is an in office treatment. Look for good practitioners and technicians. Look for gentle equipment. If the face is sagging and lined, Exilis is approved by Health Canada to reduce deep wrinkles and re-tighten the skin. The Nuface home device can make a noticeable difference as well.

If it’s acne or sun damage, a Cold Laser/ Microderm treatment gently buffs out problems and re-establishes balance from the inside. For rosacea, Cold Laser by itself can calm and correct redness and soothe.

The bottom line is that information will help you look better and feel better. If you have questions, you can always talk to your friendly neighborhood Skinformation Specialist. Call RESULTS. Consultations are free. There is always a lot of good information on our website at resultspa.ca. And you can listen live to CKBI every Thursday morning right after the 8 am news and weather.
