A former La Ronge SJHL player will serve two years probation in relation to three deaths in an apartment fire in 2009.

This comes after Blake Norman pleaded guilty to Criminal Negligence causing death.

According to crown, the 22-year-old was flicking his lighter under a box spring in the hallway of the La Ronge apartment and thought the fire was out when he and his friends left the building.

Three people died in the resulting fire.

Today the crown accepted the plea saying it was not only criminally negligent to set fire to the box spring, but Norman also did not make sure the fire was completely out before leaving.

The judge accepted the joint submission from the crown and defense is time already served followed two years probation.

Norman has no criminal record and has already served 19 months in remand.

Norman addressed families of the victims in court today, apologizing for the actions he did not take to prevent the events from happening, but many of the family members walked out at that time.
