The Wolfe set for single release show ahead of second EP

Prince Albert’s all-female musical troupe The Wolfe are gearing up to release their latest work after months inside the studio.

The alt-rock outfit will tease their new single Tip Of My Tongue from their upcoming second EP tonight at the Rock and Iron Sports Bar. They will be joined by local bands The Brownies and Between Bridges.

Lead vocalist Siobhan Bayda said the band’s new record will have a more matured, focused sound.

“Our first EP was us trying to figure out what we were like as a band,” she said. “This EP is more of a genre and sound that we are really comfortable and happy with.”

The new album will come on the back of a blockbuster year for the band.

In April, The Wolfe had a top-four finish in CBC Searchlight national music competition before they hit the road touring across Western Canada this past summer. The trio also clinched the Toronto Independent Music Award’s ‘Best out of Province’ award this fall.

The teens said these experiences have had an influence on their new work, as “our music always comes from our lives.”

“We have always been authentic,” Bayda said. “I think no matter what, all of our songs have come from what has happened in our lives so I think [the EP] definitely reflects what we have been working on up until now.”

Graduating high school in June has freed the teen’s schedule to dedicate as many hours in a day as needed to hone their craft.

“I think it is just an opportunity for us to really see what being a musician [really takes],” guitarist Gabrielle Giroux said. “It has its ups and downs and I like that we actually have time to do everything that we want to do.”

But of course, the life of a musician is not all sunshine and rainbows. Each said they questioned their choices this fall when all their friends departed to colleges in other cities, got jobs or married, and they were still here.

“We almost felt left behind even though we are doing what we want and what some people wish they could do,” Giroux said. “There was that feeling of panic and ‘are we doing the right thing.’”

Drummer Tesa Thompson echoed this, saying transitioning from the enhanced exposure in the Searchlight competition and touring took some time.

“It felt like we were stuck in the same loop almost, but we are moving forward,” Thompson said. “It was hard to come from that position back into our normal routine [of recording and practising].”

This, however, has been a positive learning experience for the teens, and one they will use to grow and build upon.

While they could not share any big plans they have in store for the future, they told their fans to stay tuned for some exciting news.

Doors open for the single release event at 8 p.m. with the show starting at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door or $10 in advance. The Wolfe’s new single is available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, and Bandcamp.
