Fielding calls for everything from bear spray and cooking incidents to motor vehicle collisions kept emergency crews busy over the long weekend.

The Prince Albert Fire Department responded to eight calls over the weekend. Parkland Ambulance Paramedics were equally swamped, responding to 92 calls.

Starting Friday night at around 11:30 p.m., fire crews were called to a small grass fire behind Saskatchewan Polytechnic. The fire was approximately 25 square feet and was extinguished without difficulty.

Shortly after, fire teams responded to the 1200 block of 28th St. East for a gasoline spill. On arrival, a van with a damaged gas tank was leaking fuel on the ground. Crews cleaned the spilt gasoline from the ground the van was removed.

Saturday, at around 2:20 p.m., the fire department responded to the 600 block of 15th St. East for a two-vehicle collision. Both vehicles were towed away and Parkland Ambulance transferred one patient to hospital.

Later that day, a cooking incident on the 1100 block of Central Ave. prompted a three-truck response for ringing fire alarms. The incident was put out prior to the team’s arrival. That evening, around 8:30 p.m., another cooking mishap on the 1000 block of 7th St East promoted a response. All was clear with only a “slight smell of burnt food.” Another cooking incident Sunday on the 200 block of 22nd St. West was attended.

Later that afternoon, teams responded to a motor vehicle collision at 15th Street and 2nd Ave. West. Paramedics cared for a 79-year-old female with minor injuries and she was taken to hospital for further care.

Paramedics also responded to a vehicle versus wildlife collision on Highway 11 near MacDowell around 8 p.m. Saturday night. Paramedics cared for a 36-year-old female and 17-year-old female with injuries and they were taken to hospital in good condition.

Saturday night, around 10 p.m., a fire crew responded to a vehicle hitting a pedestrian in the parking lot at 2995 2nd Ave. Paramedics cared for a 17-year-old female with injuries and she was taken to hospital in good and stable condition.

Sunday, teams also responded to a report of a collision with injuries on the 1400 block of 7th St. East. Once on scene, there was no accident, as the occupants of the car were bear sprayed by some people that approached their car.

Emergency crews also responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 3 south of the city Sunday night.
