Cheveldayoff set to announce leadership run

Aug 24, 2017 | 12:45 PM

Saskatoon-Willowgrove MLA Ken Cheveldayoff is set to announce a bid for the Saskatchewan Party leadership.

Cheveldayoff said Wednesday he’d be stepping down “in the next number of days” from his role as Parks, Culture and Sport minister in the current provincial cabinet, with plans to make a formal announcement Monday of his intention to run to lead the Sask. Party and become the next premier.

Premier Brad Wall previously set Monday as the deadline for cabinet ministers to step down if they plan to pursue leadership bids in the wake of his retirement announcement earlier this month.

So far, Regina MLA Tina Beaudry-Mellor and Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison have already entered the race.
