P.A. trio to take on Western Canada music tour

Prince Albert musical troupe The Wolfe is putting the final touches on their plans to hit the road for a tour across Western Canada this summer.

Coming off the back of a top four finish in CBC Searchlight national music competition in April, the trio is eager to take their music to cities across the prairies and west of the Rockies.

“It is overwhelming but it will be so fun once we are on the road,” band member Gabrielle Giroux said.

This sentiment was echoed by fellow members Tesa Thompson and Siobhan Bayda.

Despite the enhanced exposure through the Searchlight completion, the girls said they looked forward to the trek across the West.

“CBC kind of gave us a little bit more of a validation for what we are doing,” Bayda said. “It was like, yeah we made it into the top four in Canada now we can go on tour with our music. It was that extra little push to just do it right away.”

This will be one of the first times the teens will be away from home for an extended period of time. While they laughed saying “the parents are terrified,” the group said their families have been very supportive. Thompson’s parents have donated a tour van for the trip.

“Our families and our manager are really helping and working so, so hard to help us get to what we want to do,” Thompson said, adding things this far have been very “D.I.Y.”

Before they hit the road, The Wolfe will make an appearance in Ottawa on July 2 for the CBC Searchlight live show. They were eager to take the stage and experience the capital for the Canada 150 celebrations.

The girls said they are simply working to get their music to as many ears as possible, expand beyond Saskatchewan and open new doors.

“When you tour it leads to other tours. So being able to do this for a living would be the main goal,” Giroux said. “This is step one out of many.”

To help prepare and raise funds for their Can You Hear Me Tour, the band is hosting an all-ages fundraising event on June 8 at the Rock & Iron Sports Bar at the Golf and Curling Centre in Prince Albert. Tickets for this are $20 and can be bought online, from band members and at various locations across the city. A GoFundMe page has been set up and the girls were in the process of hunting for grants from the government to help with the tour, which will see them visit cities like Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Winnipeg.
