UPDATE: Arrest made in Mistawasis death

UPDATE:  Criminal charges have been laid in the death of a Mistawasis woman found unresponsive this past week.

Danny Ledoux of Mistawasis First Nation, 30, was charged with second degree murder in the death of 28-year-old Cindy Joseph of Ahtahkakoop First Nation. Police said they were known to each other.

Ledoux will be in Prince Albert Provincial Court on March 9 at 9:30 a.m.

A woman’s death is under investigation by the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit North.

Shellbrook RCMP officers responded to a call at a home on the Mistawasis First Nation at 4:40 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, officers discovered an unresponsive 28-year-old female inside the residence. The woman was taken to hospital in Shellbrook where she was pronounced dead.

The death is currently under investigation by the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit North with assistance from the Shellbrook RCMP detachment, Prince Albert Forensic Identification Section and the Office of the Chief Coroner.

RCMP said an autopsy will be conducted Monday in Saskatoon, and no further details are currently available.
