Kimbley honoured as 2016 Citizen of the Year

Feb 5, 2017 | 11:00 AM

One of Prince Albert’s most active volunteers was rewarded for her efforts last night.

Sheryl Kimbley was given the title of Prince Albert’s 2016 Citizen of the Year at a gala dinner hosted by the Prince Albert Kinsmen Club and the Prince Albert Daily Herald. Roughly 200 were in attendance, including Kimbley’s family, MLAs Nadine Wilson and Joe Hargrave and previous recipients of the award.

Among her many volunteer efforts, Kimbley has organized Remembrance Day ceremonies, a relief concert for Fort McMurray and numerous Prince Albert Grand Council events including a recent suicide prevention strategy conference. She has also been instrumental in producing Voices of the North, a First Nations talent showcase at the Prince Albert Winter Festival, and worked to help refugees and the homeless in various capacities.

“She is a tireless role model for our community,” City Councillor Evert Botha said. Botha brought greetings from the City and also presented Kimbley with the City of Prince Albert’s Award of Merit, the highest honour the City can bestow on a private citizen.
