By fall 2017, Prince Albert residents will have another grocery store option.

A Save-On-Foods location is opening up in the area behind the TD bank at Sixth Ave. E. and 15th St. E.

Frank Picard, Vice-President of Real Estate for Save-On-Foods, said the company has been looking at Prince Albert for a while.

“As part of our Saskatchewan expansion, we felt Prince Albert was one of the key markets,” he said.

The site was previously owned by Home Depot but was eventually sold to Rocco Developments.

Picard said construction on the new store will start in the spring.

“We expect to start around March and complete the project by November,” he said.

In terms of jobs, the store opening will create 100 to 125 positions.

Save-On-Foods currently has only one other location in Saskatchewan, in Regina.

The Prince Albert location will be one of three opening in the province next year, with store openings also expected in Saskatoon and Yorkton.

Picard said Save-On-Foods has plans to open three more stores in the province the following year.

“We’re strong believers in Saskatchewan. We think it will be a very good markets for us and we think our offering will resonate with customers,” he said.
