Reaching out to addicts to combat crystal meth

To help curb the rise of crystal meth use in Prince Albert, addictions services is providing avenues for direct treatment.

Officers give business cards with direct lines to addictions services workers to those struggling with drug abuse.

Reaching out through direct lines fast-tracks addicts into the system Cory Rennie, interim manager at P.A. addictions services, said.

“To enable them to get the help they need, even if they never step in our door, that’s a success,” he said.

The outreach is important because gives addicts a roadmap towards recovery. Rennie said although an addict’s moments of clarity are few and far between, they’re still there.

“We want to capitalize at that moment, strike when the iron is hot so to speak. It does wonders,” he said.

Though crystal meth is the focus of the initiative, given its increased use across P.A. and area, Rennie said the program is available for anyone suffering from addictions.
