P.A. Aces triumph in Moose Jaw on way to provincials

Jun 14, 2016 | 7:00 PM

The Prince Albert girls Bantam U16 Aces returned from Moose Jaw fastball as gold medalists.

They won five straight games to come out on top over 14 other teams over the weekend.

The Aces hammered the Moose Jaw Ice 15-0 to start the tournament off, but they didn’t run away with the rest of their games.

It was a narrow 9-8 win against the Estevan Elite in their second game, before a 15-13 win against the Regina Royals. The Aces took off again against the Pilot Butte Storm, getting 11 runners home against Pilot Butte’s two.

In the gold medal match the Aces once again faced off against Estevan in a close match as both teams flip-flopped for the lead up to the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth Sarah Anderson brought in two for the Aces off a single, and Maggie Thiessen ran in three off with a double for a final 12-five score.

This is just the latest successful tournament for the Aces, who have so far won three gold and one bronze medal at fastball tournaments this season.

They play next in Melfort in a Canada Day tournament.
