UPDATE: Prince Albert woman’s death declared ‘suspicious in nature’, RCMP appeals for information

Investigators are appealing to the public for more information on the disappearance of a Prince Albert woman, whose death has been deemed ‘suspicious in nature’.

Danielle Nyland, 23, went missing one year ago this week after she attended a gathering in the East Flat area of the city. She was last seen on the morning of June 8, 2015 in the Shellbrook/Holbein/Canwood area.

During that morning at 7:43 a.m. police said a black Chevrolet Cruz with four passengers stopped at a business at the intersection of Hwy. 55 and Hwy. 3 in Shellbrook. Investigators reported the same vehicle was spotted at the same business at 9 a.m., with only two passengers. The vehicle has since been recovered by the RCMP.

A clerk who works at the store in question told paNOW they did recall seeing Nyland that morning, “passed-out” in the back seat.

Nyland was reported missing on June 10, 2015 and multiple resources were used in an extensive search for her, including RCMP “F” Division’s air services, civilian and Mountie search and rescue teams, a tactical troop, the police dog service and a dive team.

RCMP searchers found Nyland’s remains in a secluded, wooded area east of Shellbrook on June 19 around 6:30 p.m. Her cellphone was found 500 m north of her remains.

The RCMP Major Crime Unit’s investigation is ongoing and police are urging anyone with information on Nyland’s activities in the days before her death to come forward. Investigators also hope to speak with any person who noticed a Chevrolet Cruz in the Shellbrook area during the time of Nyland’s disappearance, specifically on the morning of June 8, 2015.

“Looking forward to arrests being made,” Danielle’s mother, Lori Nyland said.

Danielle would have turned 24 on June 15.

On Wednesday, Lori Nyland told paNOW she is doing her best to cope.

“We’re taking it day by day,” she said.
