Pilon finds peace after WHL retirement; playing in Senator’s Cup
Duck Lake’s Ryan Pilon had everything going for him.
Pilon was drafted 147th overall New York Islanders in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, 29 years a few picks away from when distant cousin Rich Pilon was picked 143rd by the Isle.
He had just arrived at training camp for the WHL Eastern Conference champion Brandon Wheat Kings, who are currently in the second round of the WHL playoffs.
But even in the face of what would have proven to be a fruitful major junior season, and potentially a professional career awards, Pilon decided to walk away from the game he loved.
