Woman found dead in La Ronge

Feb 29, 2016 | 10:30 AM

RCMP said a woman’s death in La Ronge over the weekend is not suspicious in nature.

The 36-year-old woman was found dead Saturday morning, Feb. 27.  Her body was found behind a business in the community. Her death may be related to the weather.

The RCMP have not released the woman’s name.

According to social media posts, the woman’s name was Tracey Nicole Bird, who was from Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

Bird, who was homeless, would often travel back and forth between La Ronge and Montreal Lake to see her friends and family.

Bird was very well known for her bubbly personality and big smile.  People close to her said she would not ask for money, but would instead earn her money by picking up bottles around the community.

Some people who knew her say she would often go out of her way to pick up garbage in the community.

A wake for Bird was scheduled for Monday night in Lac La Ronge.  A funeral will be held in her home community of Montreal Lake.
