Updated: Finance director “no longer employed” with the City of P.A.

Jan 5, 2016 | 1:53 PM

A New Year in Prince Albert means a new finance director at city hall.

According to city manager Jim Toye, both finance director Joe Day and asst. finance director Tammy McKay are “no longer employed” with the city effective today, Jan. 5.

Toye called the decision a personnel issue, but stopped short of saying the pair were fired.

“We will take a week or so to fill those gaps,” Toye said, explaining staff would create a plan of action to hire in the finance department.

He explained the city would first look to see if the position could be filled internally. If this was not possible, a head hunter would likely to be used to search Canada-wide for a replacement. Toye said this process could take up to two months.

He said there will likely be an interim director named. For now, he said he’s confident that the finance department will continue to operate efficiently.

“We’ve got very good staff who could address this,” he said adding, in the meantime, employees may have a fuller plate in the New Year.

Former finance director Joe Day would not comment as to whether he was fired, saying “I’m not going to further indulge that one.”

Day said he and the city were “moving in different directions.” He called co-worker McKay a dedicated and diligent worker and wished all other members of his former department the best of luck.

Mayor Greg Dionne said he supports the change at city hall as he supports any decision of city manager Toye.

The city hall website lists Steve Brown as the acting director of financial services. He is also the director of corporate services.
