Crusader wrestles with success

Dec 7, 2015 | 11:59 AM

Grade 11 student, Josh Guthrie is looking to defend his SHSAA and SAWA provincial titles in the 69 kg weight class.

Josh said he first got interested in wrestling because of its similarities with Judo.

“I did Judo for most of my childhood, and wrestling is pretty similar so going into high school I thought I’d give it a try,” said Guthrie.

This year Josh wants to improve in all aspects as a wrestler.

“To be honest I hope to improve every aspect of my game. I’m always looking to get stronger, faster, more technical, and just better in general,” Guthrie said.

Josh has had a lot of help from a lot of different people which has led to his success in wrestling.

“All of my coaches from both Carlton and Prince Albert Wrestling Club, my family, and all of my training partners and teammates have had a huge impact on me as an athlete,” Guthrie said

Josh hopes after high school to continue wrestling and see how far he can go with it.

“My goal for after high school is to compete at the university level, and one day represent Canada at the highest levels of international competition,” said Guthrie.

Carlton Comprehensive Public High School’s first wrestling tournament is on Dec. 12 at Walter Murray High School in Saskatoon.
