The Sikichu Lake and Clam Lake Bridge-area residents near La Ronge have been told to proceed with a general evacuation due to a fire threatening the communities.

A local state of emergency was called late Wednesday afternoon, Chief Tammy Cook-Searson of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band said in a statement.

She stated the province’s Wildfire Management officials advised the communities to proceed with the evacuations to Hall Lake.

Cook-Searson later issued another update, saying that two buses were leaving Hall Lake for the Prince Albert Inn. She said arrangements have been made by Emergency Social Services and the Red Cross.
