Natewayes found not guilty of manslaughter

A woman who faced accusations of being a party to manslaughter has been found not guilty by a judge at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench.

Tasia Natewayes was charged with manslaughter and break and enter in relation to the death of Dakota Nayneecassum.

Judge A. R. Rothery reviewed the details that led to her decision.

On Sept. 15, 2012, Natewayes drove a car to the residence of Cody Vandall with Blake David Norman, Kyle Goodrich, Micheal Ward, Leo Raine and a 16-year-old youth.

According to details she had seen a baseball bat, but did not see the concealed knife the men brought with them.

This knife would later be used to stab Nayneecassum, which would lead to Nayneecassum dying from blood loss in hospital.

Rothery stated that while Natewayes would be able to reasonably determine that the men were planning on breaking into Vandall’s home with the intent to assault him, she would not have been able to determine that the assault would lead to the death of Nayneecassum.

Because of this Rothery said the Crown was not able to prove Natewayes was guilty of manslaughter, however she was guilty of being a party to the break and enter with plans of assault.

Sentencing for Natewayes for the offence of break and enter with intent to commit and indictable offence has been scheduled for June 12 at the Court of Queen’s Bench.
