Legislature tightens security after Ottawa shootings

The Saskatchewan Legislature tightened up security after multiple shootings at Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Wednesday.
Despite the unfolding events the fall sitting will begin with the speech from the throne from Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Schofield.
“Because of these adjustments and increases in security we’re very confident we can go ahead and people will be safe and we’ll have the speech from the throne and we will move ahead with democracy in Saskatchewan,” said Premier Brad Wall.
Police dogs swept the legislature and the speech from the throne was changed to invite only. The outdoor ceremony, which included a vice-regal salute, a 15-gun salute, and a fly past from 15 Wing Moose Jaw was cancelled.
Premier Brad Wall’s thoughts are with those in Ottawa and members of the Canadian Forces.
“I think there’s also just a certain amount of resolve, I hope we all have as Canadians. Especially if this bears out to be what people thinks it is, some sort of coordinated attack by those who just fundamentally don’t like freedom loving countries and democracy where rule of law is the fact.”
The speech from the throne, outlining the provincial government’s agenda for the sitting will be read at 2 p.m.
