Crowd shows huge support during P.A. Kraft Celebration Tour stop

After making the top 10 to win $100,000 in the TSN/Kraft Celebration Tour, people from Prince Albert and the surrounding areas showed their support for the Kinsmen Water Park.

On Wednesday TSN held a live broadcast alongside a day of free games, swimming, performances, music and food. As a top 10 contender, the city was presented a cheque for $25,000 to go towards the repair of the water slides, which are shut down for safety reasons.

Prince Albert Kraft Celebration Tour nominator, Shannon Hurl said the event was a huge success despite the rainy weather. She said she was glad to see Saskatchewan come together for a good cause.

The goal of the event was to show TSN and Kraft the spirit of the community and importance of the water slides, according to Hurl, in hopes that Prince Albert wins the top prize. She said she never expected Prince Albert to make the cut, but she believes the city deserves the money.

“Our slides are important, our slides are part of our community and everybody, that’s anybody who’s been around P.A., been through P.A. they know that we’ve got our water slides,” said Hurl.

Debden resident Louis Blais said even though they live in Debden, his kids are really looking forward to the reopening of the Kinsmen Water Park water slides.

“When our kids grew up this was a big place for them even though we didn’t live in Prince Albert, we used the water slides a lot,” said Blais.

Roberta Sinclair also made the trek into the city because she feels it’s important that small cities receive the help they need with projects like these.

“The children use the water park all the time and even myself I remember, I went to high school near here in St. Louis; and we would do school trips over here in the water park and it was definitely a highlight for the kids to come to the water slides,” Sinclair said.

Prince Albert was the eighth stop on the Kraft tour. The grand prize of $100,000 will be announced Aug. 25 on the TSN Sportscentre broadcast at 4 p.m. Prince Albert time.
