Parents looking forward to spending time with New Year’s baby

Jan 1, 2014 | 2:37 PM

Staff at Prince Albert’s Victoria Hospital delivered the first baby born in the city at 10:24 a.m. on Wednesday.

The newborn girl, Sierra Marie Lane, is the first child born to Shawna Vanos and Marc Lane. Sierra is Lane’s second child.

Vanos said she was in labour for about two days. She had expected to deliver Sierra on Lane’s birthday, days ago.

Two hours after giving birth to Sierra, Vanos was tired and resting in her room. She said they are ready for their new baby.

“We waited a long time for this,” she said, and added Sierra is a planned baby.

And Lane too is tired after the experience.

“I was a little woozy watching it,” he said of seeing Vanos in labour. “Once the baby came out, that was pretty exciting. So, I’m pretty happy all in all.”

The new parents are looking forward to bringing Sierra home on Friday. “Taking a couple days off work and just being at home with the baby,” Lane said.

“We’ve planned the baby and we’ve been waiting a long time for it … To happen on New Year’s morning, it’s pretty exciting.”
