Wakaw finds temporary doctor

Jan 21, 2011 | 6:15 AM

The threat of the hospital in Wakaw closing down has eased, if only for a couple of months.

The Saskatoon Health Region has found a physician willing to work in the town from the beginning of February until the end of March. But after that the town still faces the very real possibility the hospital will be closed.

The locum coverage comes after pressure from a local group who had organized a rally on Saturday calling on the health region to cycle in visiting doctors until they can find new permanent physicians.
In less than a year, the town of Wakaw has gone from having four doctors to having none after last physician leaves next month.
