Investigators with the Saskatoon Major Crimes Unit continue to look for answers after a young man was found dead in a back alley Saturday morning.

A homeowner called 911 after finding the body behind Avenue K near 23rd Street West. Blood was found on the ground near the body, leading police to label the case a suspicious death. They even say it is being treated as a homicide.

Now investigators have the challenge of finding out who the victim is. All they can say is the victim is a young aboriginal man between 16 and 25 years old with short hair and a very slim build.

When he was found he was wearing a Mecca brand black hoodie

“We've been doing some checking, but we haven't been able to identify the deceased person yet,” Staff Sgt. Kirby Harmon told News Talk Radio in an interview on Sunday morning, adding it's one of the priorities in this investigation.

“(Investigators) have been conducting some interviews, and right now, we're waiting for an autopsy to occur, which will likely occur on Tuesday of this week,” Harmon explained. “After that's been done, we should have a better idea about the direction of the investigation.”

Last month, Chief Clive Weighill said Saskatoon recorded 10 homicides in 2010, up from six in 2009.
