Warm temperatures haven’t stopped vacationers

Jan 6, 2012 | 1:15 PM

The warmth here at home hasn’t played a factor in travel agencies in Prince Albert who generally send a lot of people on hot vacations in the winter season. Despite the above average temperatures, many agencies have seen above average sales.

“We’re as busy as ever,” said Carla Koenig from Lobstick Travel. “It’s still plus 30 in Jamaica and the Caribbean, so people still want to get away.”

Koenig said that cost is a big factor and prices have been good for many popular vacation destinations.

Other agencies have said this has been their busiest winter ever.

“The warmer weather we’re experiencing here sure isn’t affecting people’s aspirations to get away and break up the winter,” said Tom Brothwell from CAA Travel. “It’s been a dynamite year and everything is good to go.”

Residents in Prince Albert who haven’t left on vacation have had mixed feelings about the warmer weather.

“The most I miss about it is the snow, because it was so beautiful and magical,” said Virginia McLeod.

Others have seen the lack of snow and warm weather as an opportunity to enjoy their community.

“We`ve been able to get out and around more because before we were handicapped by lots of snow,” said Bill McKay. “And now there’s hardly any snow at all, really. We’re very lucky in Saskatchewan. ”

Environment Canada has revised their predictions for the months of January and February.

Temperatures are set to stay at or above average temperatures across the province.
