Zygmunt Kopera

Zyg passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at age 87 at the Herb Bassett Home. He was born November 15, 1924 at Krusru, Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1936 with his mother and older sister to join his dad who had settled in the Tweedsmuir area. He took his elementary schooling in Tweedsmuir. He married Emelda Godin on October 19, 1949. They made Prince Albert and Candle Lake their home. Zyg retired from McGavin Toastmaster Bakery in Prince Albert after 31 years of dedicated service. After retirement Zyg and Emelda moved to Candle Lake where they were actively involved in the community and seniors club. He enjoyed having company, always had an open door with coffee on and was ready for a game of cards. Zyg had a strong commitment to family, friends and his faith. He will be deeply missed by his family: sons David (Angie), Raymond (Candace); grandchildren Bernie (Kendra), Robbie (Shelly), Laura (Clint) Rissling, Darla (Justin) Lehoux, Christopher (Meaghen), Michael (Kim), Nathan; great grandchildren Cole, Connor, Owen, Cash, Ella, Ashley, Emma; sister Jean Dorosz; brother-in-law Norman (Karen) Godin; sister-in-law Jeannette Godin; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Zyg was predeceased by Emelda his wife of 56 years; parents John and Josepha Kopera; father-in-law and mother-in-law Romuald and Rosa Godin; brother-in-law Peter Dorosz; as well as numerous relatives. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 589 – 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with celebrant Reverend Father Tuan Doan. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 – 3rd Avenue N., Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8.
