Rest your head, my weary traveller, this earthly journey is at end….
Peacefully Winnifred Michaud (Tate) passed away at the age of 97 years old in Prince Albert, SK. Winnie was the youngest child of Eugene and Maria Tate from McDowall. She was predeceased by her 11 brothers and sisters. She was also predeceased by her two daughters: Ethel (David) Chamberlain (2016) and Lois (Sam) Crockett (2005). Her husbands: Roger Ridge (1969) and Antoine (Tony) Michaud (1992).
Married in 1937, she and Roger had a mixed farming operation in the Forest Gate and Lindsay District until 1947, when they moved to Christopher Lake to run a dairy operation. Ethel and Lois were born during this time. Roger was born in 1950 and in 1952, they sold the cows and she began working in Waskesui as a cook in a few restaurants and for some outfitters camps in La Ronge. In 1966, they moved to Trail, BC for Roger’s health, until his death in 1969. Winnie met her true love, Tony Michaud in Elkford, BC through her daughter Lois. Winnie and Tony retired to Nelson, BC where they spent many happy hours together fishing and gardening. He loved Winnie, and could calm her, in a soothing French accent “now, now, my good girl”. She perfected her crafts and her quilting till her eyesight dimmed in the last year. Tony passed in 1992, and in 1997 she moved to Colonsay, SK. She moved to Prince Albert in 2000 where she remained until her death, reuniting with many relatives and old friends. A memorial will be held at a later date in BC, where she will be intered with her love, Tony.
