William “Bill” Polischuk
March 10, 1950 – October 25, 2023
Bill peacefully passed away, with family by his side, on October 25, 2023, at the Rose Garden Hospice in Prince Albert, SK. Bill was 73 years old.
Bill will be forever loved by his wife, Christa of 52 years. His two children, Darren Polischuk and his daughter Angela (Gordon) Harding. His seven grandchildren, Akiva, Bretlyn, Blaze, Chaylene Polischuk, Mason Harding, Warren Harding and Leah (Isaiah) Krip.
Bill was born on March 10, 1950, to beautiful parents, Victor and Eleanor Polischuk, that have both passed away. He has one younger sister, Debbie (Roger) Smith and their three kids Joshua, Tammy, Ryan and their families to carry on his memory.
He was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. He met his future wife on a blind date that his friends set up. In January 1971 he married the love of his life Christa. After having two children, they decided to leave the big city and moved to Prince Albert, SK.
Bill spent most of his career as a carpenter. For many years he spent working alongside his wife as carpenter and painter. They also did repairs and meeting room set-ups at the JMC Public Library. Bill loved computers! Anything to do with computers, from building, repairing to using and playing on them. He had a gift for trouble shooting and repairing almost anything. He was a self-taught mechanic and had a passion for Austin Mini cars. Bill had many hobbies and interests over the years including, camping, fishing, hunting, playing guitar, listening to music, playing cards, photography, CB radio and Ham radio. He enjoyed astronomy, watching meteor showers and the northern lights dance in the sky. While attending the University of Manitoba, he worked at the Planetarium.
He was always there to help, volunteer or just be there for support. Over the years he belonged to various clubs and organizations. Including: Northern SK Amateur Radio Club (VE5 WVP), Lions Club of Prince Albert, Canadian Red Cross, Northern Image Photographers and Prince Albert Blind Bowlers.
Bill was diagnosed with diabetes in 2002. Unfortunately, over time, he suffered most effects of diabetes. He was legally blind, but managed life with the little sight he had. His kidneys failed and spent three years on dialysis until he had a successful kidney transplant in 2011. At the time of his passing, he was in the late stages of dementia.
A special thank you to Dr. Gordon Surkan and the Kidney Health and Provincial Transplant Services at St. Paul’s Hospital for all of their care over the years, and to the Victoria Hospital and the Rose Garden Hospice for exceptional end of life care.
An informal come and go Celebration of Life will be held at the JMC Public Library (downstairs – room 3) located at 125 – 12th Street East. On Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with the care and arrangements of William “Bill” Polischuk.
