William (Bill) George Monahan
October 23rd,1957 – January 27th,2021
It is with deep sadness that the family of William (Bill) George Monahan announce his passing on January 27th,2021 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of sixty three years. Bill will be ever remembered and loved by his sister Barbara (Monahan) Goddard of Austin, Texas brothers, Joe (Carol) Monahan of Saskatoon, Don(Lynda)Monahan of Prince Albert and, his nephew Shawn (Jill) Monahan, nieces Kate and Emily Monahan all of Saskatoon, and Alissa Goddard of Portland, Oregon as well as by his great nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents James (Jim) and Myrtle Monahan.
Bill was born in Prince Albert, Sask, lived briefly in Aneroid, and spent much of his early life in Windthorst, Sask. He later moved with his parents to Regina and then Saskatoon. Bill’s mother, Myrtle Monahan, was instrumental in creating a special needs classroom at Windthorst School which Bill attended. Mom always believed in Bill and wanted him to have every opportunity any child should have. Down Syndrome never held Bill back from having a full and active life. Bill traveled with his parents to Florida for many years, and visited a number of other destinations, including to see his sister in Connecticut. His summers were spent at Waskesiu at the family cabin. Everyone at Waskesiu knew and loved our Bill. He took swimming lessons and rode his bike downtown to get the newspaper and pick up the mail. He went fishing and boat riding up to Crean and Kingsmere. Bill loved nothing better than a good picnic.
Bill attended Harrow DeGroot School for special needs children in Regina and later worked for Cosmo Industries in Saskatoon. Bill eventually moved to an Elmwood group home where he resided for many years until his move to Kinsmen Elmwood Manor where he was a resident until his passing.
Bill loved hamburger and french fries and we were always in pancake production when Bill came to visit! Bill was the glue that held our family together. He will be fondly remembered for his gentle heart, his innocence, the joy he found in simple things. Bill loved his friends who were family too him, too, at Elmwood and we are forever grateful for the excellent loving care Bill received there.
When Bill Says Grace
In lieu of flowers donations to Cosmo Industries or Kinsmen Elmwood Manor would be gratefully appreciated.
