WENSLEY, Richard “Rick” Douglas
1939-2021
It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of Richard “Rick” Douglas Wensley.
Rick was born in Naicam, Saskatchewan on September 19, 1939. He grew up on the family farm near Lac Vert and went to high school in Naicam. Being hard working and innovative were two characteristics from his upbringing that would help him always approach situations with his positive “can do” attitude. Rick married Linda (Scharf) in 1963 in Saskatoon and they soon moved to Snare Rapids, NWT as their initial stop. They moved eastward in the mid 60s so that he could attend Radio College in Toronto. He excelled in his coursework and was immediately hired by Big Blue (IBM), providing IBM with 27 years of dedicated, top notch service to his many clients. As the digital age was advancing quickly, Rick took on many opportunities for training and leadership roles, adapting to the fast moving industry. With additions to his family of Mitch and Robb, and the computer industry broadening, Rick was able to return them to their Western roots and he would finish out his career in Saskatoon.
In the mid 70s, Rick and family took an interest in Candle Lake. A lot was purchased and a cabin built by his own hand and design. Extended family, friends and colleagues all visited and Rick enjoyed golfing, boating, wiener roasts and more, alongside always improving their property. An avid boater, he was well acquainted with marinas and his ultimate dream was to build one. Upon his retirement in 1992, Rick would start the biggest project of his life. His vision for the marina was well thought out and executed. The hole was dug, the docks went in, the RV sites came, the hole got bigger and the rest is history. Rick loved working and he loved people. His family extended to all those who would come to know him. We will miss you Rick, although your presence will remain seated at the table overlooking the marina, looking out into the bay, through to the islands.
Rick passed peacefully in hospital on Friday, December 31, 2021 in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of Linda, dear father of Mitchell (Lisa) and Robert and loving “Gramps” of Madelyn and Karmen. Also survived by his brothers Donald, Rodney, Raymond and Brian and generations of nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents William and Violet (Page) and brother Phillip.
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be announced at a further date.
