UPDATED WITH SERVICE INFORMATION
With heavy hearts the family of Wayne Evans, late of the RM of Birch Hills, SK announce his passing on October 14, 2025, at the age of 67 years.
Wayne was born in 1957 in the Hagen district of Saskatchewan. He began his education at Harmony School in Hagen and later completed his schooling in Birch Hills. In August, Wayne attended his 50-year school reunion, reconnecting with classmates and enjoying stories and memories from years ago.
Wayne’s love of farming began at a very young age, working alongside his father and brothers on the family farm. During his high school years, he gained further experience helping local farmer Charlie Smith and working at the Birch Hills feedlot. After graduating, Wayne held a variety of jobs that reflected his strong work ethic and versatility. He worked at Can Am Service Station and Lavigne’s Construction before taking a position at Fred’s Service as a parts person, where he remained for several years. He later worked for the Birch Hills Rural Municipality and spent weekends driving truck for Howard McKay, hauling rapeseed to Harrowsby, Manitoba. In the early 1980s, Wayne began farming full-time with his brother Brian. Their first rented land was from their Uncle Willard in the Jumping Lake district. At the time of his passing, Wayne was involved in a family operation alongside his brothers, nephews and son.
Wayne’s greatest pride and joy was his son, Markel, born in 1981. He warmly welcomed his daughter-in-law Michele and her children, Ashton and Adyson, embracing them as his own. Wayne’s heart was full when his grandchildren Milani and Maryn were born – moments that brought him immense joy and pride.
Wayne lived his life devoted to his family and his farm. He could always be found either in the field doing what he loved or spending time with those he loved most. His legacy is one of hard work, dedication, and deep love for his family.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Wayne is survived by his son Markel (Michele) and their children, Ashton, Adyson, Milani and Maryn; his siblings, William (Lynn), Barry, Brian (Jody), Cheryl (Greg), Alan, Kevin (Marilyn), Lori (Greg), Kim (Carlee) and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Melville and Helen, his sister-in-law, Doreen, and his granddaughter, Michenna.
