Warren “Kooter” Churchill

Kooter passed away, Thursday, September 30, 2010 on Level 5 at the Victoria Hospital, Prince Albert, SK at the age of 64. He was formerly of Waskesiu, SK. Kooter is survived by his son Lyle (Shannon) Churchill and grandchildren Hannah and Micah; his son Bradley (Ivy) Churchill and grandson Connor; his brother Lloyd (Jeannette) Churchill; his sister Muriel (Sam) Holstein; his sister Elva (Sidney) Coley and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Mabel and Eric Churchill; his sisters Lois Taylor, Dorothy Lowe, Evelyn Hanson, Eileen Fitzsimmons and his brothers Louellen, Leslie and Earl Churchill. For the past 28 years Kooter’s strong work ethic and passionate, outgoing personality was a constant force on the maintenance crew of the Lobstick Golf Course. Kooter loved the “North” and made it his home. As an outdoors, nature-loving person he also enjoyed sports especially golf, football (lifelong Roughrider fan), hockey, baseball and wrestling as an enthusiastic fan and/or as a participant. He especially treasured and was proud of having his picture taken with Montreal Canadiens hockey players Frank Mahovalich and Guy LaFleur. Known throughout Waskesiu and the “North” as a “people person” his interests also included taking many, many pictures, country music (particularly the Man in Black – Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Kenny Rogers) and good old western movies starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He will be sadly missed and always remembered by his family and the many people in Waskesiu and the “North” whose lives “Kooter” touched and enriched. Memorial Service and Celebration of Kooter’s Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Dennis Serfas, Director Spiritual Care, Prince Albert Parkland Health Region officiating. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Victoria Hospital Palliative Care Unit, 1200 – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5T4 or the Prince Albert Food Bank, 64 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9.
