WELYGAN, Walter – March 6, 1923 – July 24, 2013 Walter was born March 6, 1923 in Kossow, Poland; the eighth of nine children. The family emigrated to Canada when he was three years old, and settled in the Gronlid area. He married Anne Kantymir on November 7, 1951 and they mixed farmed in the Gronlid area. Walter and Anne purchased land north of Melfort in 1961 and farmed until the land was sold in 1974. A second purchase of land occurred in 1976, and he farmed until age 86 in 2009. Walter is survived by his wife Anne, daughter Joan, son Rick and daughter-in-law Sherry. Five grandchildren Morgann, Nikki (husband Pat), Brett (fiance Brittany), Jodi (husband Sheldon) and Scott. Six great (and they are great) grandchildren Keyanna, Didi, Sara, Katie Rae, Andi and Brier. He is predeceased by a son, Harvey, in 1972. Funeral service was held at the Melfort Salvation Army Citadel on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Major Michael Hoeft officiating. Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in memory of Walter, may be directed to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan.
