Walter Henry Jackson, formerly of Kinistino, SK, passed away on February 4, 2016 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 97 years. Walter was born in the Gowanbrae District. He was the eleventh child born to Sam and Agnes Jackson. He attended the Gowanbrae School and in his younger years worked on the family farm. In 1942, at 24 years old, he joined the army and served overseas until the end of World War II. While in Holland he met his future wife Maaike “Mary” Wispelwey. They were married at his sister Besse’s home in Kinistino on August 1, 1947. They then moved to their farm in the Norden District where they raised their family. Walter enjoyed baseball and coached the boys’ team for several years. He had a passion for golfing and curling and was out enjoying these sports every chance he got. After retiring from the farm in October of 1981 he spent many hours carpet bowling at the Half Century Club. He could also be found tinkering in his shop where he was occasionally accompanied by a grandchild as he and Mary were frequent (and favorite) babysitters to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He continued both golfing and curling up until the age of 90. In October of 2014 Walter moved to Pineview Terrace in Prince Albert where he was well cared for up until his passing on February 4, 2016, with his family by his side. Walter will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of 68 years: Mary; his children: Anne (Allen) Eros, Jim (Corinne) Jackson and Rick (Janet) Jackson; his grandchildren: Dawn (Kelly) Sharkey, Craig (Lori-Kay) Eros, Dennis Jackson, Curtis (Melanie) Jackson, Jeff (Sara) Jackson and Janel (Chris Glover) Jackson; his great-grandchildren: Brittany (Adam Moser) Sharkey, Ryan Sharkey, Clark Eros and Jordan Eros; as well as many nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by: his infant daughter: Mary; his grandson: David Jackson; his parents: Sam and Agnes Jackson; his father and mother-in-law: Everen and Antje Wispelwey; as well as all of his siblings and their respective spouses and several nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 2:30 pm at the Kinistino Cemetery, Kinistino, SK. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to the Half Century Club, 208 Kinistino Ave, Kinistino, SK S0J 1H0 or the Jubilee Lodge Auxiliary, 401 Meyers Ave, Kinistino, SK, S0J 1H0.
