MAY 14, 1937 – JULY 16, 2020
It is with great sadness the family of Violet announce her passing July 16, 2020 at the Victoria Union Hospital at the age of 83. She was born on May 14th 1937 to Bill and Phyllis Goodman. She is greatly missed.
Violet is survived by her son, Greg (Florence) Nolan and their children Gary (Lori) Nolan, Crystal Nolan (Ashton), her four daughters; Gwen (Larry) Marsh and their children Jarrett (Tara) Marsh, Ryan (Pam) Marsh; Ruth (Gerald) Yausie and their children Brad Yausie, Amber (Kevin) Thompson, Lynn (Jamie) Campbell, Carmen (Kyle) MacDonald; Joanne (Brent) Lafleur and their children Candice (Kyle) Beaulieu, Brandin Lafleur (Mackenzie), Jordan (Bridget) Lafleur, Alysha (Cole) Faoro, Mitchell (Tiarra) Lafleur; Joan (Bryan) Carriere and their children Cole Carriere (Adena), Taylor Carriere (Jay), Reece Carriere; daughter in law Tami Nolan and her children Crystal (Will) Wells and Joseph Nolan. Her sister Grace Erickson, brothers Ray (Sylvia) Goodman, Gordan (Jean) Goodman and brother in law Don Cromartie; sister in law Shirley Eastman, Colleen Devine and Louise Kasko. As well as her special cat, “Missy”. Violet leaves behind 24 great grandkids and another 2 on the way.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Gene “Buck” Nolan, son Rick Nolan and grandson Curtis Hoover as well as her sisters Ivie, Bertha, Lillian and brothers Carl and Earl.
Violet met Buck Nolan at a barn dance where he swears she was the prettiest girl in the room. They were married in 1957 and went on to have 6 children while they worked as partners, side-by-side, making a life and a home where the children learned love and hard work.
Violet kept a very large garden and raised chickens every year. The butchering time was quite the family and neighbour gathering. Violet also hand milked 8 cows every morning and night. Nothing kept her from completing this chore, even while in labour.
Violet will always be remembered as someone who made sure there was always a meal for large gatherings and you always left with a loaf of bread in your hands. She will be sadly missed by all, especially by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were always so important to her.
A private family funeral service will be held at 2:00pm at Gray’s Funeral Chapel on Wednesday July 22nd, 2020. Interment will take place at the Paddockwood Cemetery following the funeral service where everyone is welcome to attend.
In lieu of tributes, donations may be made to Mont St. Joseph’s Care Home, where Violet proudly called home.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
