Victor Fremont
1927 ~ 2022
Life has to end. Love doesn’t. The family of Victor “Vic” Joseph Fremont are saddened to announce his passing on June 4, 2022 at Pineview Terrace Home, in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 95 years.
Victor will be dearly missed by his partner, Sheila Righi of Campbell River; and he will lovingly be remembered by his children, Brian (Barb) Fremont, Karl (Deb) Fremont, Robin (Norma) Fremont, and Colleen (Brent) Habetler all of Prince Albert; along with grandchildren, Shyla (Derrick and children Dakota, Matthew and Carson) Danyluk; Jodee (Dan and children Hannah, Lucas and Madison) Ouellette; Kaylee Fremont; Tara Fremont; Sara Fremont; Sarah Hill; Leanne Bear; Alyssa (Everett and child Elley) Kezar; Brennan Habetler. He is survived by his brothers, Bernard, Charles (Fern), Claude; and his former spouse and mother of their children, Audrey Hodgson. He was predeceased by his parents, Alphonse and Elise; his brothers, Alphonse, Henri, Andre, Marcel, Ron and Emile; sisters, Elizabeth McKee and Pauline Callaghan.
Victor was born to Alphonse and Elise Fremont on February 16, 1927. After finishing grade 10, he ventured out into the work world and four years later, on April 15, 1946, at the ripe age of 19, he and his brother Bernard entered a dream to purchase their own dairy farm when they acquired the former jail farm, five miles south of Prince Albert. “Fremont Brothers” would be nurtured from humble beginnings of milking 20 Holstein cows to an impressive state-of-the-art modern operation of 110 that brought visitors from all parts of the world and gained many awards in the dairy industry.
Victor was an active member of the community. He played for the Riverside Royals softball club for several years as a pitcher. He also served as a trustee for the local school board and secretary of the Prince Albert Fodder Co-op. Victor loved horses and participated in 4-H as leader of the Boots and Saddles Light Horse Club. He served as chairman on the Exhibition Light Horse Committee and associate director of the Exhibition Association. His interest with horses didn’t just stop with gymkhana; it also encompassed the equestrian world. He would groom two beautiful horses named “Many Charms” and “Mighty High” to compete successfully across Western Canada.
Victor kept busy in his retirement years. He enjoyed the competitiveness of bowling in the winter months and the challenge of golf in the summer. He liked to pack up his red truck and camper and travel the countryside. Victor enjoyed gathering with friends and family. If there was a dance, you were sure to see him there gliding across that floor. As the saying goes, “you can take a man from the farm, but you can’t take the farm from the man.” It was not an unfamiliar sight to find him in his garage, tinkering, inventing, repairing, building, designing or jimmy-rigging something to make his life or someone else’s life easier. Retirement also brought the enjoyment of gardening. Every year he grew enough food to feed an army and friends and family thoroughly benefited from his green thumb.
Interment will take place at a later date for immediate family at the Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Pineview Terrace for taking such great care of dad and making it “home”.
