Verna Graham
(January 9, 1920 – September 18, 2011)
Mrs. Verna Mabel Graham, late of Shellbrook, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Verna was born on January 9, 1920 to Winfred & Edna Ganong, and grew up in Sturgis, SK. Verna was the youngest of five children, and learnt to be frugal as many of her generation experienced ‘hard times’ during the 1930’s.
Verna fell in love and married Wilson Graham on February 14, 1942. It was a small wedding as WWII was on. They resided in Sturgis, SK, until 1951 when Wilson accepted a position as Hospital Administrator in nearby Preeceville. They raised three children, Gary (born 1944), Marilyn (born 1946), and Monte (born 1953). Verna, Wilson and Monte moved to Shellbrook in 1965 where Wilson served the community as Hospital Administrator until his retirement in 1974.
Verna enjoyed working at MacLeods and the Post Office. Wilson passed away in 1988 at the age of 78 years. They both loved life in Shellbrook. Verna served on the Hospital Auxillary and in her later years enjoyed all the activities (especially card playing) at the Senior Citizens Center. Verna and Wilson enjoyed great lives made so much the better by the many great friendships over the past 46 years in Shellbrook.
Verna’s passion was her garden; she loved to grow vegetables and flowers. Verna was dearly loved by family and friends. She enjoyed a very special connection with her grand and great grandchildren.
Verna requested that there not be a service held. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Shellbrook & Districts Health Services Project are encouraged. The family would like to invite everyone to a Come & Go Tea in memory of Verna to be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Heritage Place Sun Room in Shellbrook. You may use the south entrance.
