Our dear Mother, Vera, was called home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Monday, October 6, 2025. Mom lived a life rooted in faith with a deep love for the holy Orthodox Church, devoted to her family and Christ and guided by the teachings of the Holy Bible. Vera means “faith” in the Ukrainian language, and she lived up to her name, Mom was a woman of unwavering belief, whose love for the Lord shone through every aspect of her life and love for her family. She found joy in prayer and peace in the promises of eternal life. She shared her faith through kindness, compassion and an unyielding trust in God’s plan through her service to her family, the church, Veselka, the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada and every community she lived in. Just as important to Mom was being a lifelong grateful member of Al-Anon, which enabled her to accept anything that came her way with serenity, courage and wisdom.
As a Mother, she raised her children in the ways of the Lord, teaching them to love, to serve, and to trust in Him always. She now rests in the arms of our Savior, free from pain and sorrow, rejoicing in the presence of the Almighty.
Predeceased by her first husband, Andrew Kosowan (1982) and second husband, Philip Stratychuk (2010); parents, Emilian and Justyna Molitwenik; ten siblings (two died in infancy); son, Anthony; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Kosowan; and grandson Gordie.
Survived by 6 of her 7 children, Gregory, Taras (Marg), Morris (Kathy), Steven, Christine (Joe) and Natalia (Doug); 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
While we grieve Mom’s passing, we find solace in the hope of Christ’s resurrection and the assurance that we will one day be reunited in God’s eternal kingdom.
The family would like to thank the staff who cared for Mom at Mont St. Joseph’s and for their spiritual attention. And a special thanks to Dr. Pearce in Saskatoon and Dr. Ferguson for their compassionate care.
In lieu of other tributes, donations in Vera’s name may be directed to the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada, 3338 Lake Shore Blvd. West, Toronto, Ontario, M8W 1M9.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 684 3rd Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK, with The Very Reverend Father Michael Lomaszkiewicz officiating. Interment at South Hill Cemetery and luncheon to follow.
