Velma is also survived by her brother John (Shirley) Clark of White Rock, BC and their children George, Karen, Catherine, and Kevin, and on the Wallace side, niece and nephews Diane, Bob and Harry. Velma Lorraine Clark was born November 5, 1922 on her grandpa’s ranch, Clark Manor, near Wainwright Alberta. She moved with her parents, George and Jean Clark, to their own farm near Fabyan, AB and then later to Wainwright AB. Mom graduated from the University of Alberta School of Nursing in 1944. In 1948 mom married James Beatty Wallace, her childhood sweetheart from Wainwright. They were married in Montreal and lived there for a short time. In 1951 mom and dad moved to Prince Albert where dad set up his medical practice. The Wallace clan grew to 8 children and the family moved into the old Nesbit School for Boys on 20th Street and 3rd Avenue West. Our large family and large home kept mom hopping. Mom gave so much to her children and grand children …. Love, time and support. She was their number one fan! Whether a child, their spouse, a grandchild or great grandchild our mom made everyone feel so special. You could always count on mom to get a job done. Mom was a “doer” not a watcher. Mom volunteered as an executive member of many groups such as the Lion’s Band, the Queen Elizabeth and Arthur Pechey Home and School Association, the Prince Albert Bridge Club and her Condo Board. Mom loved “the lake” and spent many summers there. As a child it was Clear Lake, AB then it was Emma and Christopher Lake. The lake meant family, calmness (or chaos!), beautiful water, sun tanning, swimming, Telefunkin, jigsaw and crossword puzzles. We have been blessed with wonderful lake memories. In 1971 mom returned to her first love – nursing, and was a registered nurse at the Victoria Hospital and the Holy Family Hospital, retiring from the Holy in 1989 at age 67. You knew Nurse Wallace was at work when the Out Patient Department was busier than ever. Mom was well respected and loved by her patients, colleagues and physicians. Music gave mom so much pleasure. Mom played piano and enjoyed singing, instilling the love of music in all the children. Mom sang in the Wesley United Church choir and the Whispering Pines Chapter of Sweet Adelines for many years. Mom thoroughly enjoyed singing barbershop and even after the Prince Albert chorus disbanded mom made a point of attending Regional and International Sweet Adeline conventions. Mom was a big fan of her daughters’ groups- the Saskatoon Magic City Chorus, the Victoria City of Gardens Chorus and the quartet Northern Blend. Mom loved travel, adventure and meeting new people. Everyone appreciated mom’s wit and humour. Mom made frequent jaunts around the world to visit her brother John and his wife Shirley at his various exotic work locations. She spent enjoyable hours with her friends in PA and was an active member of the Prince Albert Bridge Club, the Condo Association and the Wesley United Church UCW. Velma was predeceased by her parents John George Clark (1960) and Ida Jean Clark (1980), son-in-law Peter Hodges (1971), husband Beatty Wallace (1974), brother-in-law, Doug Wallace (1976) and his wife Ruth Wallace Johns (1999), and daughter-in-law Carol Wallace (2001). We thank everyone who has known and loved our mom. Memorial Service will be held at Wesley United Church, 65 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Tony Thompson officiating. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to Charity of Donor’s Choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director. Mom’s unconditional love, kindness, humour, guidance, and selflessness will always be remembered. We miss you mom…nana….gran-nan.
