It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Woods announces his passing on October 13, 2019 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 58 years.

Tom was born on April 12, 1961 in Ile-a-la-Crosse, SK. He was raised on a farm in Debden, SK by his foster parents Maurice and Bertha Frenette. When Tom was growing up, he enjoyed playing softball, skating at the East Hill Rink, and participating in Cubs. Tom started working at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert when he was 15 years old, then moved to work in the kitchen after high school where he met the love of his life.  Bonnie Eskes asked Tom to be her date at a Sadie Hawkin’s dance. After dating for a while Tom asked her to be his bride and were married on October 12, 1985. Five years later they had Alexa in 1990, Justine in 1992, and Nicholas in 1993. Tom’s hobbies were competing in the Winter Festival’s Beard Derby’s, collecting sporty running shoes, listening to music, Tae Kwon Do, golfing, traveling, spending time with family and friends, fixing appliances, and spending time with his mother-in-law/best friend Shirley Eskes on her acreage. Retirement after Spring 2014 brought him back to the Maintenance Department of the Victoria Hospital as well as driving the Client Access Van for the Cooperative Health Centre up until the time of his death. Tom was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive, galloping form of Stage 4 Stomach Cancer in early September 2019. After his brief struggle, he passed away peacefully with his wife and three children at his bedside on Sunday, October 13, 2019… one day after celebrating their 34th wedding anniversary.

Tom is lovingly survived by his wife Bonnie; children Alexa (Brodie Surcon), Justine (Kyle Vermette), Nicholas; special granddogs Tank and Jasper; mother Alice Woods of Buffalo Narrows, SK; his siblings Jackie (Margaret) Woods of Buffalo Narrows, SK, Bobby (Doris) Woods of Buffalo Narrows, SK, Rita (Rod) Fisher of Debden, SK, Clifford (Mary) Woods of Prince Albert, SK, Jimmy (Connie) Woods of Buffalo Narrows, SK, Russell Woods of Buffalo Narrows, SK, Joanne (Brian) Suetta of Christopher Lake, SK, Sandra Woods of Holbein, SK, Francine Jeddry of Tisdale, SK, Glenda (Darryl) Robson of Buffalo Narrows, SK, Olive Frenette of Red Deer, AB, Paul (Janice) Frenette of Red Deer, AB, Suzanne Frenette of Edmonton, AB, Leo Frenette of Edmonton, AB, Sylvia (Raymond) Laitres of Saskatoon, SK; sisters-in-laws Brenda (Lawrence) Desjardins of Prince Albert, SK, Barb (Del) Herron of Paddockwood, SK; brothers-in-law Billy (Sherry) Eskes of Toronto, ON, Brett (Lenore) Eskes of Prince Albert, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family members.

Tom is predeceased by his father Archibald Thomas Woods, parents Maurice and Bertha Frenette; parents-in-law Bill and Shirley Eskes; brothers Earl Woods, Art Frenette, Larry Frenette and Rene Frenette; and sister Lucy Budd.

Memorial donations in Tom’s memory can be made to the Birch Hills Golf Course Clubhouse Fund, Birch Hills, SK S0J 0G0 where Tom loved spending time with his best golf buddies Andy Remenda, Rick Zahara and his nephew Johnny Suetta. 

Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 260 25 Street East, Prince Albert, SK.  Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens, Prince Albert, SK.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
