Tom passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 81 years. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Paulette; his three daughters, Connie (Alan), Charlene, and Kelly (Darin); his five grandchildren, Nicole (Benjamin), Jonathan, Rebecca (Cullen), Cameron, and Evan; and four great-grandchildren, Moira, Grace, Layla and Luca. He is also survived by brothers, Charlie, Bill (Sandi), Walter (Pauline); his sister, Kathleen (Cornelius), and numerous very special nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Bert & Bella Francis; his siblings, John, Bernice, Ross, Sam, Jim, and Marie.
Tom was born in the Timberland District near Leoville and attended the small school in that area. From a young age, he worked with his father who had a small sawmill, driving horses and skidding logs. He also worked for farmers in the area. He left home at age 15 and worked various jobs until he found his calling in the mechanic/welding trades. He got his Interprovincial Heavy Duty Mechanic ticket, worked for Leo’s Sales & Service in Manitoba, and then Waterous Detroit Diesel-Allison in Calgary until his retirement.
Tom had a love of sports, especially curling and baseball (playing and coaching both girl’s and boy’s teams). He also loved camping and fishing, especially with special friends Darlene & Ern and Ken & Hazel.
At his request, there will be no service held. A gathering of family and friends will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in memory of Tom to either the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Kidney Foundation, or the Canadian Lung Association.
