July 27, 1928 – September 4, 2016
Theresa Catherine Roy was born in Cudworth Sask, daughter of Caroline (Reding) and Herman Yungwirth. The family moved from there to the Whitfield district, near Prince Albert. Elementary school saw Theresa attend Sion Convent, St Mark’s School, Whitfield School (a one-roomed Grade 1-8 school) and then back to Sion Convent for High School. She was educated in the one-room country schools of Saskatchewan and taught for six years in these same country schools before teaching in city schools in Cranbrook BC and at St. Joseph’s school and Turgeon in Prince Albert. Mom married Marcel Roy in 1974 and together they farmed west of Hoey. She retired to the farm in 1984 after 35 ½ years of teaching and was then able to spend more time with their three grandchildren. She planted trees, an orchard and a large garden, putting many miles on her garden tractor. She also found time to paint in oils and watercolors, quilt, crochet, train horses and host picnics and corn roasts for their many friends and neighbours. Theresa became an active member of the Sask Teachers Federation, and her new parish church in St. Louis. They travelled extensively, saw the Holy Land, Rome, Australia and New Zealand, most of Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and much of Europe, Hawaii and Alaska. They always came home rejoicing in the fact we all lived in Canada. Mom and Marcel continued to farm until April 2016 when they moved to Prince Albert. Her firm faith in God led to a faith filled tradition of prayer and hope and trust in God. She lived a full and adventurous life and will be sadly missed. Theresa was predeceased by her parents Herman and Caroline Yungwirth, her in-laws Helen and Leslie Gagnon, one sister Agnes Keller, brothers-in-law Jerome Detillieux and Raymond Trumier, one grandson Chris Roy, one nephew David Detillieux and one great-nephew David LaHaye. She leaves to mourn her loss, husband Marcel Roy, children Randy Zazubek; Karen (Dale) Bogard; Robert (Louise) Roy, grandchildren Rob Roy (Mandy Kraft), Jen (Kelly) Wruck, great grandchildren Desirae and Gavin. Two brothers George (Annette) Yungwirth, Anthony (Adelaide) Yungwirth, one sister Magdalina (Armand) Bernier. She also leaves brothers and sisters-in-law Aline Trumier, Denise and Arsene Robert, Ernest and Margaret Roy, Sylvia and Walter Saranchuk and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and extended families and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th St. E, Prince Albert, on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Fr.
