It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bob Tunstall. The man was a true one of a kind individual, the likes of which this world will never see again. A great emptiness will be left in his place for all eternity.
Born in 1936, he grew up in Christopher Lake before moving to Prince Albert with his family as a young boy in the 1940s. Gutsy, as he was also known, was always a man of nature. From Boy Scouts as a child to hunting game in areas of Prince Albert that are now residential neighborhoods, the outdoors was always his calling. He would grow to become a prolific hunter, trapper and a decorated marksman with numerous first place trophies from shooting competitions in his collection. He was a lover of all animals and was kind and gentle with all he came in contact with.
As he grew into adulthood he would find work on various pipelines throughout the country and would often hitchhike from job to job. Happy go-lucky in a time when it was safe to take rides from strangers.
In the 1950s he would enlist in the Navy and sail aboard the HMCS Micmac. Upon leaving the Navy he returned to Prince Albert and would eventually begin a 30 plus year career at the Sask. Penitentiary, once he was assured he would not have to wear a uniform.
In the early 1960s he would come to purchase the property that would become his pride and joy. A half section of meagre hay land but with acres of untouched and wild forest in Sunbeam Valley just south of MacDowall Sk. A true paradise to the right kind of eyes. He would spend the majority of the rest of his life there, marrying his wonderful wife Lynn and together they would raise their 2 children Kim and Burt. He was a woodsman through and through but also found great joy in raising cattle and getting bucked off the odd horse now and again.
His life of relative simplicity made him into one of the hardest working and strongest men that one could ever encounter. Always choosing the hard way to do nearly everything. This toughness would serve him well in his later life as he would become a 2 time cancer survivor. However, as we all know, life is seldom fair. Dementia would eventually take hold and rob him of many of his favorite memories. His final years and days were spent at the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert and his family is forever grateful to the staff there that helped care for him in his final years.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Edith and Theodore Tunstall, his sisters Nancy Spence, Trudy Banks, Peggy Whitell, and many of his earthly friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Lynn, his daughter Kimberly Will (David Will) , their daughter Sarah Massaro, his grandchildren Hannah Will, Carter Will, and by his son Burt. Bob also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, your uncle loved you all very much.
Plans for a gathering to celebrate his life will be made by his family at a later date.
